Canal Studio Productions at Backstage Theatre is delighted to announce that Seamus O’Rourke will be joining them this summer to direct his own play ‘The Halfway House Hotel’.
Seamus is well-known to audiences regionally both as a writer and a director having achieved much acclaim for his sell out production of ‘Victor’s Dung’ (currently touring) which he wrote, directed and stars in and for his play ‘Ride On’ directed by Padraic McIntyre. As a member of the Corn Mill Theatre, Carrigallen, Seamus has received the RTE All-Ireland award for Best Director 2005, Best Actor 2010 and Best supporting Actor 2011.
With 11 cast members (seven male and four female) ranging from 16 to 70, ‘The Halfway House Hotel’ is a great opportunity for actors of all ages to get their teeth into some very exciting and eccentric roles.
The play centres around the visit by journalist, Tom Crier to St Francis Psychiatric Home where he ruffles the feathers of conscientious, Nurse Mullins and his meddling in patient affairs sparks off shenanigans of almost global importance. A satirical look at human behaviour ‘Halfway House Hotel’ is layered with comedy and thought provoking parallels with everyday life.
Auditions for the production take place at Backstage on Monday April 30 and rehearsals will run through May and June in the Canal Studio before transferring to the stage in the auditorium for performances on 5th, 6th and 7th July. Anyone interested in auditioning should contact Mona at Backstage on 043 3347888 or by email on firstname.lastname@example.org before Monday 23rd April.
