After a marathon casting night for ‘Playboy of the Western World’, held in the Backstage Theatre recently, it has emerged that all parts are finally cast. Director Oliver Kenny said, “I am overwhelmed and delighted at the very high standard of people who have put themselves forward for this play.”

More than 25 experienced and not so experienced actors from the Backstage Theatre Group turned up for the readings and auditions. As there were not enough of parts for everyone who turned up, there were some people disappointed on the night. However, they have all put themselves forward to help out in the production. Rehearsals have started during the week and the excitement has already kicked in among the cast.

Tomorrow night Thursday 13th, there will be a Masterclass Drama Workshop in the Backstage Theatre at 8pm and will be hosted by none other than the very talented actor and script writer member of the Backstage Theatre Group, Brendan Williams. It will be a taster for all members lasting two hours and will provide a golden opportunity for all aspiring actors to get a taste for drama.

This first masterclass, which is free, is confined to Backstage Theatre Group members only, but will be open early in the New Year to all who are interested in acting. If you would like to get involved or register your interest please call Jimmy our Chairperson on 0860860772 or any member of the Group. We welcome new members all year round.
