On Sunday June 5 next the focus will be upon the Longford Vintage Club’s Annual Field Day beside Texaco at the Red Cow Roundabout on the N4 outside Longford town. Now in its fourth year, the Vintage and Family Day promises to be an occasion not to be missed. With something for everyone, it is a day filled with fun and enjoyment for all.

This year’s main sponsor is Joe Farrell of Donnelly’s Bar, Drumlish. As with previous years, a wide selection of entertainment has been lined up, none more so than at the popular north Longford establishment with live music scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday nights.

As for the day itself, on show will be a display of original Longford vehicles in the very popular IX Section, which is growing each year, and there are prizes for the best IX tractor, car, van etc. These are the vehicles our forefathers drove! Harry McKenna will be there to welcome and enlighten you on the history of such IX vehicles, for further information, email info@ix-longford.com.

There will be vintage and classic cars, tractors, bikes, stationary engines, thrashing machines to view and not forgetting the Auto jumble area, where you could find something you have been looking for!

There will be something for all the family; Best Dressed Lady, Best Dressed Man, Little Miss & Mr Vintage, Bonny Baby and a Dog Show. McFadden’s Funfair, Bouncy Castles and The Bronco will all be there to keep the young and old happy. There will be all sorts of stalls and various competitions throughout the day.

The Longford Vintage Club was formed in January 2005 by a few vintage enthusiasts, namely Kevin Phelan, Harry McKenna, Teresa Kane and the late Gerry Donnelly (RIP). The club to date has raised in excess of €60,000 for various charities, last year St. Vincent De Paul were the main benefactor. Declan Nerney is honorary secretary of the club.

The Club’s aim is to preserve the Longford Motoring and Heritage in any shape and form and all things from yesteryear. The Club organises vintage tractor and car runs and a Vintage and Family Day, which is held on the June bank holiday weekend each year.
