A highly successful event in Longford’s social calendar, the Fleadh will take place in various venues in Edgeworthstown from May 9-11.

The weekend gets underway with an official opening concert on Friday, May 9 in the Park House Hotel. Starting at 8.30pm, the concert will showcase the best of talent in music and dance. Special guest on the night will be Christopher Maguire, Senior All-Ireland Button Accordion Champion 2013. Admission to the concert is €10 for adults and free for children.

On Saturday, The Mostrim Arms will host the Mini-Fleadh, where Under 8 and Under 10 competitions will take place from 2pm. From 4pm to 5pm, a Street Busking Competition will take place.

At 7pm, a Traditional Mass will be celebrated in St Mary’s Church. Mass will be followed at 7.45pm by the official launch of the County Fleadh on the ‘Gig-rig’, located at Kane’s Supermarket car park.

On Sunday, May 11, Fleadh Competitions will commence at 1.15pm sharp in St Mary’s National School.

Entertainment on the ‘Gig-rig’ begins at 3pm, with special guest performers. Fleadh winners will also take to the stage later that evening.

Throughout the whole weekend, traditional Irish sessions will take place in the town’s pubs.

The members of the Joe Callaghan branch and the Longford County board wish to welcome all participants in the various events, and extend their gratitude to their sponsors and all who give up their time to help ensure the smooth running of the event.

“We wish all our competitors every success and we welcome any visitors to town for this cultural event.”
