The carnival comes to town

Longfordians, get ready for the experience of a lifetime. This Saturday (August 27), over 60 brave adventurers will take to the skies over the Market Square as they jump 130ft into thin air and plummet towards the concrete earth below. While this might not be everyone’s cup of tea, it will certainly be an occasion to remember and all are invited to come along and support these adrenaline-seeking souls. Jump off begins at 11am.

And yes, you can still participate at this late stage. Pay €150 and complete the jump on the day.

“RehabCare is a great charity and we are delighted to be associated with them. All proceeds raised from the Bungee Jump (after expenses) go towards this charity,” said Dessie. “The Bungee Jump is a unique opportunity to do a once in a life time experience right in the heart of our own home town. There’s only a few days left to book your place, so get in touch now.”

For those of us who would rather stay nearer our beloved terre ferme, there are plenty of fun-loving options to discover and thanks the businesses of Longford the majority of these experiences are free of charge. That’s right – free. For every €10 you spend in participating businesses, you will receive a token to use against one of the great activities available throughout the day.

So what’s on offer? Well, instead of a bungee jump, you can do a bungee run. There will also be a rodeo bull, wrecking ball and magical bouncing castle. Don’t be surprised if you see a famous face or two in the crowds as Barney the dinosaur is scheduled to make an appearance.

Monica Forde will be on hand too; her artistic touch brightening up the faces of both young and old with her face-painting. So grab the kids, pack the car and come into Longford for what promises to be a day to remember.“This is the traders’ way of saying ‘thank you’ to their customers for staying local and shopping local over the summer months,” said Dessie Connolly, Commercial Manager at the Longford Leader. “We at the Longford Leader would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to all the businesses who have supported the Longford Carnival 2011. Without them this event would not have been possible.”
