The launch of the Granada Festival took place last week, and attention is now focused on the festival itself, which promises to be a memorable weekend of music and entertainment.

Launched in the Greville Arms on Thursday May 30, the festival is organised to celebrate the Granada Ballroom, a top-class venue for dancing opened in 1955. Hundreds of young people from Longford, Cavan, Leitrim, Westmeath and the surrounding areas would gather in the ballroom to see their favourite singers and bands. With its star-studded line-up, the Granada festival 2013 will be an entertaining weekend for newcomers, but also a nostalgic one for those who remember their dancing days in the Granada.

Taking place on the weekend of July 5 -7 the Granada festival has a line-up to suit all ages and tastes, allowing people to look back on old memories while making new ones.

On Friday, July 5, Chuck and June and Jimmy Buckley and His band will supply the entertainment.

On Saturday, July 6, the Lady of the Motte selection will take place, before music from Paper Planes and Audiopilot.

Finally, to round up the weekend, old favourites – and indeed familiar faces in the Granada – Gina Dale Haze and the Champions will take to the stage.
