This Saturday, February 14, sees the national Scór na nÓg finals take place at the Citwest Hotel in Dublin, and County Longford is in contention to pick up medals in two categories.

Rachel Lyons of St Patrick’s GAA Club, Ardagh, will compete in the storytelling category after her excellent performance at the Leinster finals on January 10, while Cnoc Mhuire student Nathan Brady will represent Colmcille GAA Club in the solo singing section, after he claimed first prize in last month’s provincial event.

Both Rachel and Nathan have been eagerly awaiting the opportunity to perform in the finals, and speaking last month, the Chairperson of Longford Scór, Pauline Flood, said the local branch is hopeful the two competitors can pick up some silverware at the event.

“We have high hopes for them,” she admitted. “Nathan has won many fleadhs, has appeared on Scór Encore on TV, and has appeared on Miriam O’Callaghan’s show. He’s from a very musical family.

“Rachel is also from a musical background, and in addition to storytelling, she sings and plays guitar and bodhran.”
