Abbeylara-based artist Lar Maguire will this week host his first exhibition in sixteen years.

Lar’s last exhibition, which was held in Dublin, was a tremendous success. The title of the exhibition was ‘A New Direction’, which could also sum up Lar’s latest works.

“I have dabbled in all mediums with the exception of watercolours/pen and ink which will feature in this one” Lar explains.

Lar’s latest exhibition will reflect his own environment and “an ‘artistic’ reference to Abbeylara and part Granard coupled with other works”.

Lar admits that after the long absence it is “refreshing” to return to art.

He also acknowledges the support and help of Granard Credit Union, particularly Marie Scanlon; Dunphy’s Supervalu and Cllr Tommy Stokes.

Lar also extends a special thank you to his partner Angie Grogan “for her time, encouragement, patience and understanding in bringing the event from an idea to fruition.”

“Art has a way of bringing all aspects of a community together” Lar explains, adding that to cement this fact, 20% of all sales will go to the Granard branch of St Vincent de Paul.

Lar’s exhibition will open this Friday, February 28 at 8pm in Granard Credit Union.
