Hollywood is alight with rumours to one question. Who will take the lead role in one of the world’s most controversial love stories? With over 31 million copies sold worldwide, 50 Shades Of Grey has been the book of the summer. Its lead characters, Christian Grey and his naive love interest, Anastasia Steele, have captured the minds of book lovers – and now they are set to capture the hearts of movie-goers.

But who will bring these sensational characters to life on the silver screen? The Longford Leader asked its Facebook followers to post their suggestions and here’s what you had to say.

According to Micheal Nolan, our very own Joe Flaherty (Longford Leader MD) takes the top spot as Christian Grey. While he has the height, we wonder if Christian’s legendary locks of hair may prove a challenge?

Kathleen Mahon felt that heart-throb David Gandy (model) would cut a fine Christian, while Rosaleen Dempsey-McLoughlin felt we should fall back on the tried and tested Leo and Kate duo.

Mary Harney and Dessie O’Malley topped the polls for Shane Hughes, and keeping it Irish Colm Quinn posted his duo – Gay Byrne and Miriam O’Callaghan.

Our Legan Fine Gael TD didn’t miss out. Dermot Hughes felt that James Bannon and Joan Burton could team up in any 50 Shades Of Grey movie.

Meanwhile, looking at Hollywood’s pool of potentials, Maria Maher sees Scarlett Johansson (Girl With A Pearl Earing) playing Anastasia and Alex Pettyfer (Stormbreaker) as Christian. Kellan Lutz (Twilight) and Emma Watson (Harry Potter) were firm favourites for Lynda Dowler, while Channing Tatum and Lindsey Lohan took the top spot.
