Tarmonbarry-based writer Eileen Moynihan will launch her children’s book, ‘Rory Gumboots’, this Saturday, June 7.
The book tells the tale of Rory Gumboots, a hedgehog who lives in Noddinghead Nook. One day, the peace and quiet of his home is ruined by machines, and none of the animals know what to do.
“I wrote it donkey’s years ago, and it was just sitting there,” Eileen explains.
First published as an eBook, ‘Rory Gumboots’ was released without illustrations, but now, the book has been beautifully illustrated by Epublishingexperts, and Eileen has opened a competiton to invite local children to create their own illustrations.
The self-published book will be launched on Saturday, June 7 at the Ardagh Heritage and Creativity Centre from 11am - 1pm. When the launch was announced, Eileen also announced the children’s competition, and on the day, the winners in the 4-5 year old and 6-8 year old categories will be announced.
A member of Longford Writers’ Group, Eileen also recently completed a writing course mentored by writer Alan McMonagle, who will speak at the launch on Saturday night.
Looking forward to the launch, Eileen explains that her experience as a teacher was one of the things that lead her to write a children’s book, adding, “I enjoyed books when I was young and I think I know what children enjoy.
“I’d like to inspire children to read books,” she states.
All are welcome to attend the launch of ‘Rory Gumboots’ by Eileen Moynihan, which takes place this Saturday, June 7 between 11am and 1pm.
Copies of the book will be available from Eileen herself, selected local outlets, and the library.
