Friday is upon us again, and we have compiled a list of the events taking place throughout the region this weekend.

Friday, November 8:

Poetry Cafe readings and open mic night will take place at the Haggard, Ballyduffy, Moyne at 8.30pm. All are welcome to read, recite and céilí together.

Friday, November 8:

A Casino Royale fundraiser will take place at Lough Rynn Castle starting at 7.30pm. Funds raised at the event will go towards establishing a suicide awareness service and help centre in Longford.

A table quiz in aid of Ballinagh Christmas lights fund will be held in Cronin’s.

A table quiz will be held in J’s Hotel, Mohill at 9pm. Proceeds go to the Mohill Bluegrass Festival 2014.

The Backstage Theatre, Longford will host Ballet Ireland as they present Carmen. Starting at 8pm, Carmen features Longford musician John Walsh on flamenco guitar.

Bunlahy Area Action Group will host ‘The Quare Land’ in the Community Centre, Granard.

Saturday, November 9:

UCL Harps FC are hosting ‘Who wants to be a Thousandaire’ in the Breffni Arms Hotel, Arva at 8.30pm.

Saturday, November 9:

The 40th anniversary of the Ballymahon Secondary School’s class of 1973 will take place. The event will start in the school around 12 noon with registration, tea and coffee. There will be a tour of the school, a Powerpoint presentation of photos and the laying of flowers in the graveyard to remember pupils and teachers who have died. Afterwards, the group will head to lunch in Cooney’s Hotel.

A Christmas Fare will be held in Currycahill from 12-1pm.

A country gospel concert will take place in Derrylane Parish Church at 8pm with Colin Elliott and Live Issues.

The Newtownforbes Friends of St Christopher’s Autism Workshop and Longford Dyslexia Workshop are holding a cheque presentation night following the cywalkleathon. The event will be held in Casey’s Lounge, Newtownforbes, and there will be music and spot prizes on the night.

Saturday, November 9:

A fundraiser will take place in Leavy’s of Foigha in aid of a defibrillator unit. Music on the night will be provided by local group Tanglewood.

Sunday, November 10:

A Cake sale and Coffee Morning will take place in the Parish Community Centre, Church Street, Castlepollard between 12.15pm and 1.30pm. The event is in aid of parish funds for St Michael’s Parish, Castlepollard, Castletown and Finea.

Sunday, November 10:

Rassaun Craft Group will host a charity craft sale in the ‘98 Hall, Ballinamuck from 10.30am to 4pm. All proceeds in aid of the Multiple Sclerosis Society and Stop Suicide.

Sunday, November 10:

On Remembrance Sunday, members of Peter Keenan Branch ONE, Longford will take part in the commemoration ceremony at The Great War Memorial on Market Square, Longford. Those wishing to take part are requested to be at the Cathedral Car Park by 10.10am. Ceremony starts at 11am.
