Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann took place from Sunday, August 11 to Sunday, August 18 in Derry, the 2013 City of Culture.
The competition was fierce, with competitors from all over Ireland, and even some from the UK and the USA descending on Derry to take part in the renowned festival.
Talented local musicians took part in many of the competitions, and a number of them returned home having impressed the judges, earning a place amongst the top musicians in this year’s Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann.
The Longford musicians who placed in the various competitions are as follows:
Laura Doherty placed 3rd in Mouth Organ 12-15.
Elaine Reilly earned 2nd place in both Mandolin O18 and Miscellaneous O18.
Ronan Callaghan was awarded 2nd place in the Céilí Drums 12-15 competition.
Brothers Nathan and Stephen Brady also impressed the judges, with Nathan coming in 2nd place in English singing (men) 12-15, and Stephen earning 2nd place for English Singing (men) 15-18
Congratulations to Laura, Elaine, Ronan, Nathan and Stephen, and well done to all who have represented Longford from the county Fleadh right up to Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann.
