Annual Higgins
poetry competition

Entrants are now being sought for the annual adult poetry competition which is part of the Poet Higgins Project. The poem must be a minimum of 20 lines to a maximum of 160 lines. The poem should be based on an event, situation, person or place. Organisers are encouraging the use of the recitation style of rhyme and expressive story-telling in the poem, in keeping with the tradition of the Poet Higgins.

The poems can be submitted via email to aidenkelleher@eircom.net or by post to, Eileen Byrne, The Poet Higgins Society, Cloncoose, Mohill, Co Leitrim, with the author’s name, address and phone number clearly stated. The closing date is Friday June 1st 2012.

There will be a special night organised where prizes will be awarded for the winners. Schools in the area are also being contacted regarding the children’s poetry competition which is open to 4th 5th and 6th class in national schools.
