Sonas St Christopher’s

Sonas St Christopher’s will have a craft stall at the Dome, N4 Axis Centre featuring cards and homemade crafts and gifts for all occasions. Open Fridays from 11am to 4pm and on Saturdays December 7 and 14. Orders also taken in Sonas.

Christmas lights

Edgeworthstown will officially switch on the Christmas lights on Friday, December 6 at 7pm outside Duffy’s Supervalu. There is a jam-packed schedule on the night which includes lots of festive fun. Ballymahon will also get into the festive spirit, as their lights are switched on at the library at 7.15pm.

Table quiz

A table quiz in aid of the village Christmas tree will be held in Fitzsimon’s Bar, Finea on Friday, December 6. It will be held in conjunction with the annual draw.

“Our Roots in Stone”

A very special record of Ardagh’s history will be launched on Friday, December 6 when Luke Baxter’s book “Our Roots in Stone” is unveiled at 9pm in Lyon’s red pub by Stephen Collins, political editor of the Irish Times.

White collar boxing

Preparations are well underway for a White Collar Boxing night in Drumlish Community Centre on Saturday night, December 7. There will be 10 bouts on the night.

Awards ceremony

County Longford Community Games will be holding their first annual Awards Ceremony in Rawle’s, Ballinalee at 9.30pm on Saturday, December 7.

Longford County Choir

The Backstage Theatre beckons on December 7. A great evening of festive music is planned when Longford County Choir join Opera Theatre Company’s ‘Sparkling Seasonal Songs’.

Christmas Tree

All are invited to attend the annual switch on ceremony for Kenagh Village’s Christmas tree, which will take place on Saturday evening, December 7.

ICA Fair

Longford ICA will hold a Christmas Fair in the Temperance Hall, Longford on Saturday, December 7 from 10am to 4pm.

Fundraising night

Streete Parish Park Vintage Club are hosting a fundraising night in Fiddlers Green pub, Streete on Saturday night, December 7. All proceeds will be donated to the people in the Philippines through the charity Plan Ireland.

Christmas draw

The annual Tang NS Christmas Fundraising draw will take place in Murray’s Maghera on Saturday, December 7 at 9pm.

Vintage club

Ballinagh and district Vintage Club are holding a night of entertainment in Cronin’s Lounge on Saturday, December 7.

Festive celebrations

As part of the community festive celebrations and the Gathering 2013, the Christmas Lights committee are hosting a Christmas market on Upper Main Street, Granard on Sunday, December 8. The Christmas market is being incorporated with the switching on of the Christmas lights in the town. There will be the unique live crib and stationery crib also. Local carol singers will provide entertainment and Santa will make an appearance to kick off the festive celebrations.

Lights

Ballinamore Christmas lights will be officially switched on at the courthouse at 5.30pm sharp on Sunday, December 8. Ballinalee will also light up for Christmas this Sunday at 7pm, while lights will go on in Ballinagh at 5pm.

Coffee morning

A Christmas coffee morning will be held on December 8 after 11am Mass on Sunday in Ennybegs Community Centre and in Thomas Ashe Hall, Ballinalee. The event is in aid of St Vincent de Paul Granard and St Vincent de Paul’s Bethany House, Longford.

Kenagh fair

Kenagh’s annual Christmas fair will be held in St Dominic’s Centre from 12 noon on Sunday December 8.

Christmas market

A Coole Yule Christmas Market will take place in Hotel Castlepollard on Sunday, December 8 from 10am to 6pm. There will be a wide range of stalls and exhibitors on the day, with musical entertainment and a visit by Santa Claus.

Cake sale

Cloontuskert national school will host a cake sale on Sunday, December 8 in Ballyleague Hall following 11am Mass. The doors will be open from 11.45am. There will also be a number of novelty stalls on the day.

Festive event

Colmcille Ladies will host their hugely popular Christmas market this Sunday, December 8 from 11am in Aughnacliffe’s Community Centre.

Ardagh Toddler Group

A Christmas fair in aid of Ardagh Toddler Group will take place on Sunday, December 8 from 12pm-2pm in Ardagh Community Centre.

Santa Claus

Santa will be in The Green, Edgeworthstown on Sunday, December 8 from 2pm to 5pm. Music, raffle, refreshments and fun for all the family.
