A table quiz will be held in Kilbrackan Arms Hotel at 8.30pm. All proceeds go to Concern.

Northern Gaels GFC will host a table quiz in Keogh’s, Mullinalaghta. With valuable prizes on offer, a table of 4 is just €40. The quiz, which is in aid of the Northern Gaels club, will begin at 9pm.

A GAA table quiz will also take place in Fox’s Pub, Gortletteragh starting at 9.30pm. Tables of 4 are €30 and underage tables are €20.

Friday, September 27 – Sunday, September 29:

The highly anticipated St Mel’s festival will take place this weekend, giving the public a chance to see the work that has been carried out on the Cathedral. Kicking off on Friday with a reception and introduction to the weekend’s activities, the highlight of the weekend will be the opening of the Cathedral to the public. A guided tour is available for ticket-holders, while the Cathedral will be open for free to the general public from 1.30pm on Sunday. Saturday, September 28:

Arva club are holding a Race Nite in the Goal Post Bar, Arva. Spot prizes and refreshments on the night. All proceeds will go to the Players Injury Fund. Cheques will also be presented on the night to the Arva GAA Club and SOSAD, Cavan from the sale of the calendar “Off the Ball” earlier this year.

Saturday, September 28:

“The Quare Land” starring Seamus O’Rourke and Shane Carroll takes place in the Breffni Arms Hotel, Arva. Tickets cost only €10 and are available from Breffni Arms Hotel, Lynch’s Shop Arva, Moore’s Spar Ballinagh and Village Foodstore in Crossdoney. Proceeds will go to St Christopher’s Hospice, Cavan.

There will be a fundraising night in the Boomerang Bar, Granard in association with the Breffni Challenge to raise much-needed funds for St Luke’s Hospital, Cavan Oncology Unit and Breast Cancer Research.

A benefit/fundraising night will be held in Crawford’s Bar, Abbeylara. A raffle for a hamper, knitted nativity set and numerous other prizes will be held on the night. There will also be live music by Mary O’Connor. All proceeds from the night will go to Temple Street Children’s University Hospital.

To celebrate the official opening of €urogiant at the N4 Axis Centre, there will be a family fun day from 2pm to 6pm. All are welcome to come along. There will be a children’s entertainer, face painting and balloons on the day.

Decadent Theatre Company present Eden. Written by Eugene O Brien and directed by Andrew Flynn, it tells the story of an “ordinary relationship on an extraordinary weekend”.

Drama returns to ‘The Haggard’, Ballyduffy, Moyne this weekend, as Michael Judd performs the one-man show “The Importance of Being Oscar”. Starting at 8.30pm, the play draws on the works of Oscar Wilde.

Longford LGBT are joining forces with Longford Kopites to paint the Sin-Bin at the Longford Rugby Club red. There will be live music and DJs on the night. Tickets cost €10.

The rescheduled Longford Vintage Club annual Car Run will take place, starting from The Olde Forge (Kiernan’s) Killoe. Registration gets underway from 11.30am.

Longford Voices United (LVU) will welcome Tullamore Gospel Choir to the Longford Arms Hotel from 3pm to 5pm. Brendan Keeley, Musical Director of the choir will facilitate a free workshop for singers and musicians who may be interested in joining the choir.

Longford Fitness are celebrating their first anniversary with an AAI approved 5km Fun Run/Walk with all proceeds going to charity. The three trainers, Enda, Tess and Niall, have chosen a charity each, and the funds raised will go to Motor Neurone Disease, Hospice Longford and Acorn Longford.
