Preparations for Co Longford’s biggest annual fundraiser music festival are well underway in advance of June 11th, when hundreds of people are set to arrive into Ballymahon town, where the day long music event will be the highlight of a weekend of fun.

With a number of discounted activities on offer such as white water tubing and zorbing (outdoordiscovery.ie), as well as free camping, parking, and food, there’s a heightened interest in this year’s festival and with headliners including The Coronas, KILA, Jamie Lawson, Ham Sandwich and Tupelo.

Beyond the fun and entertainment planned for the weekend is the very worthy cause behind the event – the Friedreichs Ataxia Society of Ireland (www.fasi.ie). Sufferers of Freidreichs Ataxia can find themselves extremely limited and debilitated by their condition but thanks to groups like FASI, the quality of life they see can vastly improve with the proper care and support offered by the society.

The 10,000 euro raised from the Helium event last year was put to extremely good use and this is why locals in Ballymahon have invested so much time and energy into making the Helium Fundraiser Music Festival as successful as possible all over again.

Ticket sales for June 11th are progressing well from all corners of the country – and indeed, even further afield – and with limited capacity locals are being urged not to miss out on what’s a very strong line up.

One lucky reader can this week avail of an opportunity to win two tickets for the Ballymahon event by submitting the answer to the following question, as well as your name, address, age and phone number on a postcard to:

Helium Festival Competition, Longford Leader, Leader House, Dublin Road, Longford.

Question: Name the charity that the Helium Festival raises funds for? One lucky winner will be picked out next week.

Helium 2011 will take place across three stages, with artists playing from 2pm onwards. The full line-up is as follows:

Helium Main Stage - The Coronas, Kila, Ham Sandwich, Jamie Lawson, Tupelo and James O’Connor with Audrey Trainor.
