An intelligent bunch of Longford Junior Certs

Almost 59,000 students received their Junior Cert results last Wednesday and it seems there was much to be excited about in Co Longford when local students received their results.
“The teachers and students were delighted with the results here at Cnoc Mhuire,” a proud Ms Moira Mahon, Principal told the Leader. “We had very good, strong results and Barry McKiernan is one student who excelled in his Junior Cert.
“More students did honours maths and science this year and a large number of those secured the honour, so needless to say we are delighted about that.”
Over at Moyne Community School, the overall result was “on par” with last year, according to Principal, Des Cullen. “Results were very good and everyone is very happy with them,” he added further. “We had a higher percentage increase in the numbers doing higher level Maths and a subsequent larger number achieving the honour, so that is very positive. Overall I would say the results here at Moyne Community School were on par with last year.”
Overall at Templemichael College, results were “very good”, an achievement that was ascertained by the increased number of students who opted for higher level papers in a number of subjects including maths and Irish. “Absolutely delighted with the Junior Cert results this year and there was a big increase in the numbers who took higher level papers, so that is a very positive step,” Principal Sorcha Ní Dhonnacha affirmed.
Acting Principal at Ardscoil Phadraig in Granard, Gareth Buckley, also explained that those opting for higher level papers increased at the school this year and both teachers and students were “delighted” with last week’s results.
“We are very happy overall,” he said, adding that students taking higher level papers this year had especially increased in maths and Irish.
“There has been a big change here and a lot more students are taking the higher level papers; to be honest with you results in the Junior Cert were great but it has to be said that this year’s Leaving Cert results were our best yet at the school, so it has been very positive at Ardscoil Phadraig this year.”
Meanwhile, back in Ballymahon, Principal, Convent of Mercy, Josephine Donohoe paid tribute to her students and to their parents and teachers on what she described as students’ “resounding achievements” in this year’s Junior Cert.
“We would always encourage as many students as possible to take the higher level paper and we had some great results; one student obtained 10 As and two Bs so that was excellent,” she said.
