Viable device found in Longford

An investigation is underway following the discovery of a suspect device in Co Longford.
Gardaí were called to a house in the Corboy area close to Edgeworthstown on Saturday afternoon, and following an initial examination of the device they called in an army bomb disposal team.

The N4 was closed to traffic while a controlled explosion was carried out.

The all-clear was given shortly after 5pm.

The remains of the device were taken away for a technical examination.

A spokesman for the Defense Forces has confimed that the device was viable.
