Live Crib in Longford town

A hugely popular part of parish life in recent years in Templemichael has been the monthly holy hour, which is organised by Fr Brendan O’Sullivan and a team of committed volunteers. It takes place the last Saturday of the month at St Mel’s Cathedral Centre in Longford town.

While the holy hour, which takes place every Saturday at 8.30pm, is currently on a break and returns in January, Fr Brendan and the team have instead focussed attention on the annual live crib. This will be unveiled in the grounds of the parochial house (beside St Mel’s Cathedral) this Sunday at 4pm and will remain in place until 6pm.

It is always very popular and especially with children, who this year are being encouraged to dress in their Christmas attire and enter the spirit of the occasion. The Folk Choir who perform at the monthly holy hour will be there and joined by other choirs as they sing from the balcony of the parochial house.

Fr Brendan will lead a prayer service at 5pm and hopefully the weather will be kind to all on the day. Members of the public can if they wish, make a donation on the day to the Cenacolo Community, which is a rehabilitation house in the West of Ireland for young men dealing with addiction. The money raised will be used to buy clothes.

In next week’s Longford Leader we will carry a reflection of this year’s Holy Hour with Fr Brendan, as well as some comment from those who have taken part in the event.
