Midsummer at Tullynally

Midsummer Night's Dream.

Midsummer Night's Dream.

The Quantum Theatre Group will be making a welcome return to Tullynally Castle on August 10 with a musical version of Shakespeare’s famous play, Midsummer Night’s Dream, especially adapted for family audiences. The performance will start at 6pm, and lasts just under two hours with a 20 minute interval.

Hugh Whitmore, the director, has specialised in adapting plays and stories for children for the past ten years and this fast-paced production will be hugely enjoyable, combining slapstick, conjuring tricks and music without in the least debasing Shakespeare’s play.

The setting will be the terraced lawns directly in front of the castle with spectacular views of the parkland and woods beyond. The audience are welcome to bring picnics, rugs and cushions or folding chairs – and tents will be provided to give overhead cover if rain threatens.

The ticket price includes entry to all parts of the gardens – so give yourselves time to explore before or after the play. Children will especially enjoy the family of llamas in the walled gardens, and ducks and swans on the two ornamental lakes. There will drinks and refreshments available throughout the afternoon and evening in the tearoom in the castle courtyard and sausages and drinks available on the terrace itself.

Tickets can be bought during normal opening hours (Thursdays – Sundays from 1 – 6pm) in castle tearoom, or in Murray’s Shop, Castlepollard or reserved on line at tullynallycastle@eircom.net for collection. Adults: 10 euros. Children 5 euros, Family ticket (for four): 25 euros
