Mary O’Connor to launch new album
Renowned country singing legend, Mary O’Connor is back in the limelight this week as she prepares to launch her much anticipated new album ‘My Old Irish Home’.
The launch takes place at the Longford Arms Hotel on Friday, August 17 next and O’Connor will be supported on the night by local artists Paschal Flaherty and his band members Liz Leavy and son, Davy Flaherty.
The well known singer has been associated with some of the great music legends of the show-band era, including Larry Cunningham and the Country Blue Boys back in the 1980s. Her musical career spans from Abbeylara to London and beyond, and these days she is back in the picturesque north Longford setting of Abbeylara where she continues to write and record material. She currently entertains around Ireland and has also been spotted across the water in the UK.
This latest CD, which was recorded locally at Real World Studios and produced by Paul Gurney is a compilation of 12 great songs that comprise a mix of country and Irish sounds. The title track, ‘My Old Irish Home’ has in fact already received rave reviews and has received significant airplay in recent times. A new video which features Mary, was filmed in nearby Aughavas, Co Leitrim, will be televised on the Hot Country Show – on Sky TV, channel 191 – over the coming week.
A music legend in her own right, O’Connor fronted her own band in London for a number of years and also teamed up with Paschal Flaherty to form a band with him. The pair remained good friends throughout the years, and so it comes as no surprise that he has lent his support to her, in this, her latest venture.
Also performing on the launch night will be local entertainers Séan Hussey, Paul Gurney and Frankie Flaherty, of the Black Framed Dots. Co Meath native, Ray Murtagh will perform a number of his hits and Patsy Fallon and Ken McDowell from Co Galway will also take part in the night’s celebrations. Local artists, Barney Brady and Séan Marshall of Na Fianna will also perform and compere Kevin Lalor Fitzpatrick, who is a personal friend of Mary’s, will add his own personal touch to proceedings.
