Mosstown Riding Club added another string to its bow after its team outclassed the opposition in the Team Championship at the TRI Equestrian National Horse Trials Championships last Sunday week.

Mosstown, who finished on 102.5 penalties, had an incredible 10 penalties to spare over the Wexford-based Carne Riding Club, who finished second on 115.6 penalties.

It’s another great result for the Mosstown stables and school as 24 teams entered the championship, which was held at Lisgarven House in Ballon, Co. Carlow. In fact, Mosstown owner, David Harrison bred three out of the four winning horses from the team.

Lesley Fitzgerald (riding Brooklyn Beckham) and Kimberly Flood (Mosstown Jamie R) both finished on their dressage score of 33.5 penalties, a feat only 37 of the 210 strong field could manage on the day.

Marie Murray added two time penalties over the coloured poles on Merryman to give the Mosstown team its third score of 35.5

The teams remaining member, Emer O’Donnell on Mosstown Spritzer added 10.4 time penalties across the country to her earlier dressage score of 37 penalties.

“We’re absolutely thrilled. As a team we couldn’t be more happy. We didn’t expect to win but we’re absolutely delighted. It’s a lot of work over the year but we do it for the love of it, and a win like this is a massive boost,” a beaming Lesley Fitzgerald told the Leader.

Lesley and Marie will now compete in the Allianz Masters Series League Final in Mullingar this Sunday, before taking a well-deserved break for the winter.
