Backstage Theatre Group news

Rehearsals for our annual Three One Act Plays which will be on stage in the Backstage Theatre on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th October, are now in full swing. All Plays have been cast and actors and crew are getting ready to ensure a top class performance and production.

The first play is written by David Tristran, ‘What’s for Pudding’, who is no stranger to writing comedy one act plays and this one is no exception. Directed by the Group’s Oliver Kenny, who is also a formidable director, and has a reputation for delivering quality and humour at its very best.

In this play Mary and Jack are preparing to settle in for the night when a knock comes to the door unexpectedly. Hilarious comic revelations follow with some of their friends getting the wrong side of a bottle of whiskey. The caller, Denis is bewildered at the antics of all as he just called to order a pair of trousers from Mary’s clothing catalogue, but he finds himself ending up with more than he bargained for.

The Next Play, ‘Hero’ is written by Michael Lynch and directed by up and coming director Jim Davey. The play is set in a British Army Casualty make-shift hospital. The staff are faced with an unusual decision, regarding a Private Underwood. Do they make his final hours comfortable? Or having received desertion papers for the Private, have him sent to face charges, or Die the ‘Hero’.

The final play, ‘The Lithium Waltz’ is one of Barry McKinley’s Trilogy One Act Plays and is ably directed by Pat Joe McLoughlin, who has directed some of the group’s top one act plays.

This takes place in the rest room of a Mental Hospital, the ‘characters’ a strictly Come Dancing Couple, a veteran resident, a newcomer, a mad professor and a feisty nurse meet up to perform the ‘Lithium Waltz’. However, all is not what it seems to be and the ‘Waltz’ is performed in a ‘magical’ way.

For a great night’s entertainment and some comic humour, don’t miss this night out. Avoid disappointment now by booking at Backstage Theatre, Longford on 043 3347888. Watch this space for updates and remember we are always open to welcoming new members.
