Tidy Towns call on businesses to act

The Chairperson of Longford Tidy Towns has called on the Town Council to send a letter to all businesses in Longford asking them to take charge of their own premises.

Andy O’Dowd’s plea comes after Longford finished third out of 42 in the latest Irish Business Against Litter poll, released last week.

“There will be another survey between now and November and we would ask that all businesses keep the outside of their premises clean. Everyone needs to take responsibility for themselves. If they don’t do it, I would recommend they be fined,” he said, speaking at last week’s Joint Policing Committee meeting.

Congratulating Longford Tidy Towns on the IBAL result, Town Clerk Dan Rooney supported Mr O’Dowd’s motion. “Ninety percent of people in this town have great pride in Longford and support this town fully but there’s 10 percent who don’t, and they’re the ones doing the damage.”
