Tesco Longford raises over €1,200 for Aware

The team at Tesco Longford are delighted to have raised over $1,200 for Aware, Tesco’s Charity of the Year, with their recent 5K Tesco Longford run and coffee morning. The 5k run was held on Sunday October 21st and over 70 runners took part in the run with Tesco staff also taking part in the challenge. All participants received a unique medal after finishing the race including those who chose to walk the 5k distance.

Speaking about the charity walk, Paul Connell, Community Champion, Tesco Longford said, “We are delighted to have raised this funding for Aware, our Charity of the Year and we would like to thank everyone who got involved including my colleagues and those who supported us with contributions and donations.”

Aware is the national organisation providing information, support and education around depression, a condition which affects more than 450,000 people in Ireland (one in ten) at any one time. Funds raised during the partnership in 2012 will go towards Beat the Blues, Aware’s free secondary schools programme which helps create a better understanding of issues amongst pupils, teachers and parents. Depression affects many teenagers in Ireland and funds raised through the Tesco Charity of the Year partnership will enable Aware to deliver Beat the Blues to approximately 16,000 additional teenagers this year.

The charity was chosen as Tesco’s Charity of the Year for 2012 and 2013 earlier this year. Since its inception in 2001, the Tesco Charity of the Year Programme has donated over €10 million to 8 Irish charities.
