The picturesque north Longford Parish of Mullinalaghta will become a hive of activity on Sunday, August 5 next when St Columba’s GFC plays host to a ‘Party in the Park’ to raise some much needed funds for the enhancement and development of the park’s facilities.

A day of craic agus ceoil, children’s activities, food and drink and lots, lots more guarantees a fun-filled day out for all the family at this unique summer event in the Parish.

Proceedings kick off at 3pm and from then until 6:30pm the park will come alive to the sound of children’s laughter as bouncing castles, slides and face painters emerge.

An all day BBQ will produce enough food to feed a large army and when tired and weary children are brought home to their beds, musical entertainment and licenced bar will be provided for in the nearby marquee from approximately 6:30pm onwards.

“At 7pm we will kick off with a Mr and Mrs competition which will comprise a number of local celeb couples,” Maggie Reilly, St Columba’s GFC stated. “Following that the Lee Brothers will take to the stage and local DJ Liam Reilly will continue with the tunes into the early morning.”

The initiative was mooted a number of months ago when members of the club realised that a fundraiser to continue with the necessary development at the clubhouse and grounds, was a must. “We had plans in place to develop the park; we wanted to install a playground for the children and create a running track around the pitch,” Ms Reilly explained further, adding that the novel fundraiser became the only way forward. “The whole community has come together on this and regardless of the weather, it is going to be a fantastic day our for all the family. Young and old will be entertained to their hearts delight on the day and the Club would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for their support to date and encourage everyone in Co Longford to check out the ‘Party in the Park’ next Sunday. Everyone is welcome to come along and join in the fun.”

BBQ all day; Bar open from 6pm; 3pm ‘tll late. Admission: Adult €10; Child €5; Family, €30.
