The MS Cycle 2012, in aid of the NW MS Therapy Centre in Sligo, took place on Saturday 13th of October 2012, from Longford Rugby club to Esquire’s Coffee House in Carrick-on-Shannon and back.

The cycle was organised by six members of the Considine family from Longford in order to raise funds for the North West MS Therapy Centre, which caters for 350 MS sufferers from six counties, including Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon. Eamonn Considine, one of the organisers of the event, was diagnosed with MS 20 years ago and attends the centre in Sligo for treatment.

One hundred and eighty cyclists took part and €25,000 has been raised so far, which will go towards the building of a respite centre at the Therapy Centre in Sligo. The centre recently started construction of a five-bedroom respite centre with an approximate cost of €500,000. This centre will provide respite care and treatment for people with MS and give their carers a respite from their job as 24hr care givers.

The organisers of MS Cycle 2012 have undertaken a five-year programme in order to raise €50,000 for the NW MS Therapy Centre and are looking forward to next year’s event, which will take place over the same weekend.

Donal, Brendan, Sean, Rosemarie, Dearbhla and Eamonn Considine would like to thank Fergal and Rhona, owner of Esquires Coffee House, Carrick-On-Shannon and Longford, Mick McGuinness at the SinBin Event Centre in Longford Rugby Club, Roy Davis at Supervalu Longford, the Civil Defence and the Gardaí for their sponsorship and help in organising this event.
