On Friday, November 23 last during a function in Good Counsel GFC, Drimnagh, Dublin 6, a cheque for €61,000 was presented to Joan Freeman of Pieta House, Lucan -The Centre for the prevention of Self-harm or Suicide by Edgeworthstown native Bernard O’Neill.

All monies raised were gathered during the Fifth annual Tomás Mulligan Memorial Cycle which took place on August 11 and 12 this year.

“Over 80 cyclists travelled from Dublin to Dundalk and back and all the cyclists, back up crew and collectors had a very enjoyable two days which included an overnight stay in the Carrickdale Hotel,” Mr O’Neill explained “Next year the cycle will be from Dublin to Kilkenny and back and will take place on August 10 and 11. All funds raised will go towards supporting the great work being done in Pieta House and we are inviting everyone to come on board and help support this very worthy cause.”
The €60,000 raised from this year’s cycle will assist Pieta House in sustaining its one to one counselling service dedicated to people who are suicidal or engaging in self-harm. Pieta House receives 80% of its income through fund-raising and donations, so the Tomás Mulligan Cycle is a very important annual event on the fundraising calendar. “The cycle also helps to make people more aware of suicide and promotes the work of Pieta House,” Mr O’Neill added.

The organising committee would like to take the opportunity to thank Longford cyclists, Eimear Walshe; Bernard O’Neill and helpers Mary Jo O’Neill; JP Harkin; Francis O’Neill and Noeleen & Rosie Walshe.
