The friends of a Newtownforbes woman seriously injured in a traffic accident in Nottingham last week are seeking the public’s help to raise funds to help support her family.

Twenty-one-year-old Amanda Robinson was airlifted to hospital, where she remains in a serious condition, after an accident on the MI in Northamptonshire last Thursday week (June 14). Amanda was trapped in the lorry she was driving for nearly five hours after it hit an embankment and overturned at around 6.20am on the busy motorway.

Horrified by the news and the extensive injuries suffered by Amanda, her friends and family have come together to organise a number of fundraisers to help Amanda and her mum, Hilary, who has flown to the UK to be by her side.

The Robinsons live in Currygranny in Newtownforbes, where Hilary is well known for her animal charity, ‘Hungry Horse Outside’ which works tirelessly to protect abandoned horses. Amanda’s sister Hazel also lives in Drumlish while her brother Adam lives in Townspark in Longford Town.

“Mandy is the best of the best, she’s one of the nicest girls you could ever meet. She’s a real character, if you met her, you would never forget it,” friend Jennifer Manning said.

“It’s really horrible what has happened to Mandy, and we’re not sure how long she is going to have to remain in hospital in the UK but it could be months. Her family are out there at her bedside so we want to do anything we can to help,” she added.

Friends of the Robinson family have set up a Facebook page, ‘Pray for Mandy Robinson’ and have organised a number of events to help raise funds for Amanda – affectionately known as Mandy – who is expected to remain in hospital for the foreseeable future. The site has already got an incredible 1600 likes.

The first event is a sponsored walk from Longford to Newtownforbes scheduled for July 29th. Sponsorship cards are available from shops in Newtownforbes.

Amanda loved anything to do with trucks, and often jokingly referred to herself as the ‘Queen of the Road.’ Due to the high esteem she is held in the trucking world, a fundraising lorry convoy has been organised for August 5th, travelling from the GAA complex in Newtownforbes to Rathowen and back. A benefit night will take place in the SinBin in the Rugby Club at 8pm the same day.

For anyone who wishes to get involved or make a donation they can contact Jennifer Manning on 2868jennifer@gmail.com.
