Fore Charity Walk: Next Sunday, July 22nd, sees a charity fundraising walk in Fore in aid of the ‘Moving Mountains’ charity. The organiser of the event is local man Frank Higgins who has carried out voluntary work in Kenya in aid of the organisation and has seen first hand the sterling work done by the charity. The walk will being at 2pm at the Coffee Shop, Fore, and will head to the shores of Lough Lene before returning to Fore. The walk will take approximately two hours and refreshments will be available before and after the event. All support for this worthy cause will be greatly appreciated.


Athletic Success: Congratulations and very well done to local athlete, Paul Collins on winning his first Junior Men’s Gold Medal in the Shott Putt competition in the Junior and Under 23 Championships held in Tullamore on Sunday, June 24th. Paul also competed in the Discus competition and took a well deserved Silver Medal. Congratulations and continued success.


Castlepollard Celtic FC: Castlepollard Celtic FC is holding an FAI Summer Soccer School from Monday, July 30th, to Friday, August 3rd, in the grounds of Castlepollard Community College. The Soccer Camp is for boys and girls aged six to fourteen years and will focus on coaching, fun games and mini-tournaments. A special goalkeeping course will take place in Castlepollard on Saturday, August 11th, and Sunday, August 12th. 5K Road Race: The annual Castlepollard 5K Road Race, known as the Tullynally Challenge, will take place on Wednesday, August 15th, starting at 8pm. The event is in its 22nd year and this year the local North Westmeath Athletic Club hope to have a prize fund of approximately €1,500. The committee is hoping to attract further sponsorship this year, and thank the loyal band of local businesses and individuals for their generous and ongoing support. If any local business would like to become involved in sponsoring the event their contribution will be most welcome and duly acknowledged.


Croagh Patrick: The annual Croagh Patrick Reek Day Pilgrimage takes place on Sunday, July 29th. Donoghue’s bus will pick up pilgrims in Castlepollard at 6.15am; Coole at 6.30am and Edgeworthstown at 6.45am. Booking is recommended before July 20th.
