WALKWAY: - all reports of our new Streete Parish Park Walkway are very positive and we thank all who expressed appreciation of the track. As most know the lights are not connected yet. The heads for the lights are low energy and the lighting specialists had to import them from Germany. BOHERQUILL RAMBLERS: The Ramblers visit to Abbeyshrule in County Longford last Sunday was of special significance as it was in recognition of the village’s great victory in this year’s Tidy Towns Competition. On their previous visits the group has always been struck by the hard work put in by the residents to create such an attractive environment and this year all that work has been rewarded. Between the ruined Cistercian Abbey at one end of the village and the impressive five-arch Whitworth aqueduct at the other, the village has many items of interest such as the beautiful canal harbour with its polished stone picnic tables and benches and throughout the village there are sculptures such as Brendan Colum’s impressions of fish and birds. Flowers are everywhere of course. In warm autumn sunshine, the Ramblers set out from the village on a loop walk, ending back at The Rustic Inn at the heart of the village, where they relaxed over tea and scones. The Ramblers wish to thank the McGoey family of the Rustic Inn for the post-walk refreshments. On next Sunday, October 28th, the Ramblers will walk in Newcastle Forest near Ballymahon. Cars will leave Boherquill at 1.30pm and meet at the bridge in the forest at 2pm.
