Roz Purcell’s Newtowncashel team will take on Calum Best’s Moy Davitt’s from Foxford in County Mayo in the RTE Celebrity Bainisteoir Final on Friday at Parnell Park, which has a throw-in time of 7.30pm.

Following a heartbreaking defeat in this year’s Longford Intermediate Championship Final, Cashel will look to the reality television show for some much needed fortune. Speaking to the Leader this week, Newtowncashel’s Mick Casey said: “We were beaten by Granard in the Intermediate Final and were knocked out of everything else so this is the one we’ll be looking at for some success.”

As game day gets closer, Bainisteoir Purcell has taken extra measures to ensure her team are fully focused for the clash. Mick explains: “Roz moved down to live with three of the lads for a day or two last week. Cashel beat Jessica’s team Naomh Bhride in the semi-final and because of that, Jessica now has to serve as Roz’s assistant and she has spent time down here too training the lads.”

As interest in the big match reaches fever pitch, several buses leaving from Newtowncashel on Friday are almost sold out but a small number of seats remain available. For further information on travel arrangements and availability, visit the event’s Facebook page www.facebook.com/Newtowncashel. Supporters will meet at The Goblet, near Parnell Park, which is owned by the McGovern family who are life-long Longford GAA supporters. Entry to the game is ticketless and free of charge but all fans are asked to be inside Parnell Park before 6.30pm.

The highlights of Friday’s final will be shown on RTE One at 6.30pm on Sunday evening.
