Abbeyshrule crowned Ireland’s tidiest town

Abbeyshule has been crowned the overall winner of this year’s Tidy Towns Competition, capping what could turn out to be the south Longford village’s most successful five days in its history.

In winning the top prize, Abbeshrule organisers beat off 854 towns and villages as it also secured the tidiest village award.

The honour marks a significant improvement on the village’s performance from last year when it claimed fifth place overall.

Attention, meanwhile, now switches to this Friday (September 14) when Abbeyshrule takes its place alongside a clutch of European village’s in the 2012 Entente Florale Competition Final.
